Blinder with Grinder – the night

Hello all

Sorry for the delay in reporting on how the night went, but yesterday was a day of recovery for many people and going on how well the night went on Friday, I’m sure most of us were very quiet yesterday.

The night was a huge success with over 250 people in attendance and thanks to all at the Manningham for having the room ready just the way we wanted it and for their service on the night.

For all of you who donated a raffle/auction prize, I can safely say that every auction/silent auction item not only sold but in some cases where a reserve was set, this was well and truly met or exceeded by a considerable amount. It was suggested that had none of these items sold, Grinder and Tania would have had a house full of items to be sold on Ebay. Luckily, this was not the case.

A big thank you must go out to everyone who donated or chased up donations for the event. All prizes and items on offer were of high quality and worth bidding  for. Your generosity with these gifts made the organizers tasks that much easier.

A massive shout out must go out also to MC Alfie Calvert and his wife Laurel. They were practically the first people who made contact when the initial email went out for help in organizing this event.

Both worked diligently throughout the whole 8 weeks of getting this night together as well as on the night.

The night owes a lot of it’s success due to the efforts put in by Kate and Ash Minchin and Ausilia Sommerville. Not a day went by where either one of the girls may have secured another donation or negotiated with venues etc. The meetings we had always came up with new ideas and improvements on old ones. Their efforts certainly showed up on the night as the evening went very smoothly and the layout was superb.

Lastly, thank you to Bruce Chaplin and the league for getting right behind the night. We have a great community in Vic Metro and it’s shame someone had to get hurt for us to realize this.

Due to everyone digging deep, I’m sure life in Mick and Tania’s house will be just that much easier in the near future.

Once again thanks to everyone of you. Merry Christmas to all.

Kind Regards

Darren Sommerville
